Jewelry Gifts for Your Girlfriend: What to Buy and What to Avoid

Buying jewelry for a girlfriend is one of those gifts that looks simple and turns out not to be. You are choosing something she will wear on her body, in a style you have to guess at, in a size you probably do not know. Most guides answer this with a list of pretty photographs. This one answers the questions that actually stop people at checkout.

We make jewelry by hand in Lithuania and a large share of what we sell in December and February is bought by men who have never bought jewelry before. The advice below comes from those conversations.

Start with how long you have been together

This matters more than her taste, her budget or the occasion. The same necklace means something different at three months and at three years.

Under six months

Keep it light. Something she can wear immediately without deciding what it means. A small pendant, a pair of simple earrings, a thin bracelet. Nothing engraved, nothing heart-shaped, nothing that arrives in a box shaped like a question.

Good picks here are the gold circle karma necklace at 25 euros or the minimal ear cuff at 17 euros. Both are the kind of thing she can wear the next day without a conversation attached.

Six months to two years

You can be more specific now, because you have seen what she actually wears. This is the range where a pearl piece, a stone necklace or a personalised letter pendant lands well. The small pearl necklace with a golden heart at 60 euros and the gold-plated letter necklace at 29 euros both sit here.

Two years and beyond

By this point the safe gift is the boring gift. Buy the thing she has mentioned, or upgrade something she already wears daily and has worn out. A better version of her everyday necklace beats a surprise in a style she has never chosen.

What you can buy without knowing her size

This is the single most common reason a jewelry gift fails, and it is entirely avoidable.

  • Earrings: always safe. There is no size. The only question is whether her ears are pierced.
  • Necklaces: nearly always safe. 42 to 45 cm fits almost everyone. Buy that length unless you know otherwise.
  • Bracelets: usually safe if adjustable. Check the listing says so.
  • Anklets: safe, and almost nobody thinks of them.
  • Rings: risky. Ring size is specific and getting it wrong turns the gift into an errand.

If you want a ring anyway, borrow one she already wears on the same finger and measure the inside diameter. Do not measure her finger with string. It is always wrong.

Working out her style in ten minutes

You do not need to know jewelry. You need to know three things, and all three are visible in her photographs.

Gold or silver

Look at what she already owns. Almost everyone commits to one metal tone and stays there for years. If her existing pieces are warm, buy gold tone. If they are cool, buy silver tone. When you genuinely cannot tell, silver tone is the safer guess, because it goes with more.

Small or noticeable

Some people wear jewelry that disappears and some wear jewelry that announces itself. Check whether she wears the same three small pieces every day or changes to something bigger for evenings. Buy for the version of her you see most often, not the version you see on nights out.

Does she have a sensitivity

Roughly fifteen percent of women in Europe react to nickel. If she has ever complained that earrings make her ears itch, buy stainless steel, titanium or 925 silver, and avoid unmarked alloy. Everything we make uses surgical stainless steel or silver for exactly this reason.

Ideas by budget

Price signals something whether you intend it to or not. These are the bands that work in practice.

Under 20 euros

Small, sincere, no pressure. The minimalist cube earrings at 18 euros, the ear cuff at 17, or the red string bracelet with a silver heart at 15. This band is ideal for a first gift or an addition to something else.

20 to 40 euros

The most useful range, and where most of our gift orders sit. The gold star necklace at 30 euros, the delicate pearl bracelet at 37, or the teddy bear necklace with hematite at 37 if her taste runs playful.

40 to 65 euros

A real present rather than a token. The delicate small pearl necklace at 55 euros, the pearl and malachite necklace at 55, or the pearl necklace with a silver heart at 60.

Above 65 euros

At this level buy one considered piece rather than several. Browse the pearl collection and pick the one thing that looks like her, not the most expensive thing on the page.

The four categories, ranked by how often they go right

Earrings

The highest hit rate of anything on this list. No sizing, low price, worn near the face where they get noticed. Start with something small and plain: bar earrings, triangle earrings, or the circle earrings, all at 18 euros. The full range is in the earrings collection.

Necklaces

The most personal of the safe options, because a pendant carries meaning in a way an earring does not. Choose the pendant carefully and the chain simply. Our gold-plated chain with a heart at 37 euros is the direct version, and the pearl necklace with a locket pendant at 39 is the quieter one.

Bracelets and anklets

Underrated, and almost always adjustable. The karma circle anklet at 19 euros is a summer gift that nobody else will have thought of.

Rings

Beautiful and risky. If you know her size, a plain band like the modern minimal gold ring at 17 euros is a lovely small gift. If you do not know her size, choose something else. A ring that does not fit is a gift she has to fix.

Pearls, and why they work as a gift

Pearls used to read as formal. They stopped being formal somewhere around 2019 and are now one of the easiest things to give, because they suit almost every skin tone and go with both metals, which no other material reliably does.

Freshwater pearls also cost far less than people assume. A pearl necklace on decent metal sits between 40 and 65 euros, and the recipient tends to assume it cost more. If pearls fit her, the pearl and howlite necklace at 45 euros and the pearl and star necklace at 49 are the two we recommend most often. There is more detail in our guide to choosing pearl gifts.

What to avoid

  1. Anything engraved with a date early on. It removes the option to exchange it and it puts weight on a gift that did not need any.
  2. A ring, if you are guessing. Covered above, and worth repeating.
  3. Unmarked cheap metal. It discolours within weeks and takes the memory of the gift with it. Our guide to jewelry that does not tarnish explains what to look for.
  4. Something in your taste rather than hers. The most common mistake by a distance.
  5. Matching sets. They look generous and they almost never all get worn.

If you genuinely cannot decide

A gift card is not a failure. It is the honest answer when you do not know her taste well enough yet, and it beats a piece that sits in a drawer. Pair it with something small so there is a physical thing to open.

Practical things worth checking before you order

Delivery inside Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is 2.99 euros and takes two to five working days. Elsewhere in the EU it is 7.99 and takes longer, so order earlier than feels necessary in December. Returns run 14 days.

Everything we make is assembled by hand in small numbers, which means a piece is occasionally the last one. If you have found the right thing, do not leave it in the basket for a week.

Common questions

What jewelry should I get a new girlfriend?

Something small, plain and under 30 euros. Earrings or a simple pendant. The goal at that stage is a gift she likes, not a gift that says something.

Is a ring too much?

Only if it looks like an engagement ring. A plain band on any finger other than the fourth is a normal gift. A solitaire is not.

Gold or silver if I have no idea?

Silver tone. It works with more skin tones and more of what people already own, and it is the safer guess when you cannot check.

How much should I spend?

Between 20 and 60 euros covers almost every situation short of a milestone anniversary. Above that you are buying significance, not jewelry, so be sure the moment calls for it.

What if she does not like it?

Keep the receipt and check the return window before you buy. Any shop that makes returns difficult on a gift is telling you something.

The short version

Buy earrings or a 45 cm necklace, in the metal tone she already wears, between 20 and 60 euros, from a maker that uses stainless steel or silver. That single sentence covers the large majority of good jewelry gifts. Everything above is just the detail behind it.
